Mel's speech and background music

http://www.zshare.net/audio/84515934ea45bf37/

Here is a recording of melissa's voice over. Looking back at the original speech, I have made some changes.

"Have you ever doubted your existence and confused a dream with real life? Something inside you changes. The thoughts running through your head seem different, you feel detached from everything around you.
No colour, no life, just escape. Am I insane? No, I'm normal, this is normal. So what happens now? Do we run? No. We smile. We smile because we know something's wrong and these questions need answering.

And then I wake up with the sudden realization. I am alone."

I had to make the speech shorter as it was originally 0:49 seconds, and my whole trailer is 1:30. I have managed to shorten it to 0:33 thus giving me more time to add other clips.

I recorded her voice using logic pro 7. I then added reverb to give a natural echo to the voice, channel EQ to boost/cut specific frequencies, a slight echo to give it an eerie feel and a compressor to make the sound louder.

The gained inspiration for her voice over by looking at a number depersonalization/dissociative disorder based blogs.

"Common descriptions include a feeling of being outside one's body; "floating on the ceiling looking down at myself" feeling as if one's body is dissolving or changing; feeling as if one is a machine or robot; "unreal" feeling that one is in a dream or that one"is on automatic pilot." Most patients report a sense of emotional detachment or uninvolvement, or a sense of emotional numbing. Depersonalization differs from "derealization," which is a dissociative symptom in which people perceive the external world as unreal, dreamlike, or changing. The various ways that people experience depersonalization are related to their bodies or their sense of self."

http://www.zshare.net/audio/84516064e877c5e8/

This is the background music I have decided to use. I composed it myself using the chords Dm, A#, Gm, Am and F. I the majority of chords used are in a minor key. This is because Minor keys are used to create eerie and depressing atmospheres. I started out by improvising notes from each scale and then overlapping them and harmonizing them. I then used the cut tool to cut each section up and then mix them about. Previously I had looked at Philip Glass and Terry Reich for inspiration for background music, as i wanted my piece to sound minimalist. So once I had composed the piece, as well as mixing the sections up, i began to phase shift. (This is heard at the end of the piece) where the section is played on repeat but shifted a bar later so when the sections overlap, it creates either a harmonic or dissonant tone.

Idea for an intro and storyboard

This is my intro for my media trailer. The opening shot is a long shot of Melissa on a busy street. I've chosen this location because it creates a lot of distraction in the background which creates the illusion that Melissa isn't as important as the background, which makes the character appear quite empty. I have also used manual focus in this shot as I wanted this shot to be blurry. This creates a dissociative atmosphere, a lack of reality. I have used a number of effects to enhance the shot. I've altered the contrast and levels to make the shot appear darker which ties in with the genre of the film. I have also used the colour wheel on final cut pro to add an orange, green and black photo filter. This creates a a natural and glowy effect to the shot, and the black photo filter allows the colour to drain from the shot again relating to my choice of genre.
My second shot is a tracking long/midshot along Marylebone Road. I've delibrately made the camera movement jolty as I feel a steady shot wouldn't be appropriate in a teaser about mental health. I had asked Melissa to appear slightly agitated and jumpy to allow her to connect with her character. I had also asked her not to stare directly at the camera as, I wanted her to appear dissociative and disconnected with the environment around her.
My third shot is a side angle tracking midshot. I used this shot because I wanted to show the audience how Melissa felt, and in this shot she appears very stressed as she pulls her hair away from her face. I also used this shot because the majority of shots I had for the intro were all head on walking/running shots down the road so I felt a different angle was needed. I deliberately chose to face away from the road to make the shot a lot darker, as the only light in this shot is the flood lights shining off of the block of flats.
My fourth shot is a long shot. Again I have used manual focus to make Melissa appear blurry. I told Melissa to walk slowly in this shot as this is when
My fifth shot is a long shot and a zoom out to midshot. I asked Melissa to run towards me and appear distressed. This relates to my chosen genre as the character clearly is quite upset. I used this location because there are several street lamps around this courtyard and I needed quite a lot of lighting in order to show her distress.
My final shot is a close up shot of Melissa. I have used this shot to show Melissa's facial expression, which could be argued shows a sense of manipulation and a sudden contrast from upset to feeling dark and dangerous. Before I had filmed this shot, I had already written the speech for Melissa, so I knew the final sentence would be "I am alone" which I felt really needed a dramatic shot, and I felt a closeup showing emotions would be the best shot.

Getting used to editing part 2

I have put together a running sequence using clips of the main character Melissa.
My first shot starts off as a manual focus shot of Melissa running towards the camera, I have made the camera jolty to increase the dramatic tension. I have also zoomed out to show the character's reaction to being chased.
My second shot is a long panning shot of which focuses on Melissa running. This shot shows the speed in which she is running which i feel shows how scared she is.
My third shot is of Melissa's feet running. I wanted to use a number of different angles and shots in this sequence to make it more interesting and tense. Again the side view of Melissa shows the speed she is running at which again shows the fear.
My fourth shot is a point of view tracking shot, where the camera is running after Melissa. I have deliberately made it jolty to make the shot relate to the genre and to make it more dramatically tense.
My fifth shot is a dolly shot which is tracking Melissa's lower half, I felt that I needed more than just emotional shots of Melissa to keep the audience entertained.
My sixth shot is a tracking long side shot, which i feel is the most dramatic shot of the sequence as it then feeds into my seventh shot which is a zoomed in tracking shot, I took inspiration from tv shows/movies such as The Bill, and Shank. The fast cut draws the audience in as the tension rises.
My eighth shot is a cut back to the point of view tracking shot, I've put this clip in the footage again because it makes it appear like the individual is getting closer to Melissa, which again builds up tension
Nineth shot is same as fifth shot.
The final shot is of Melissa running and looking slightly happier as she is no longer being chased. I felt a non-dramatic ending was needed to surprise the audience.

Planning and research

I have been watching TV drama's to get a better understanding of camera shots. At the end of Misfits on E4 09/12/10 was a perfect example of a vertigo shot.

Video Blog 2: Melissa

I have created this video blog as I feel the majority of my audience are unaware about depersonalization,  so creating a blog gives the character a chance to reach out to the audience and basically tell them how she feels and what she feels. I have done this with a "hectic background" to make it seem like a teenage like area.

Melissa's overdubbing speech

Have you ever doubted your existence and confused a dream with real life? It just happens. Something inside you changes. The thoughts running through your head seem different, unfamiliar, you feel detached from everything around you.
No colour, no life, just escape. Am I insane? No, I'm normal, this is normal. So what happens now? Do we run? No. We smile. We smile because we know something's wrong and these questions need answering in this time of solitude.

And then I wake up with the sudden realization. I am alone.

Filming Practice

Me and a group of students thought it would beneficial to do a practice film. This would help us prepare for shots we were planning to use, and practice the harder shots such as the dolly and vertigo. this also gave us a chance at editing footage and applying music to that footage.

Soundtrack Ideas

How to destroy angels - parasite
How to destroy angels - big black boots
Fat Segal - Clutch
Portishead - Roads
Anet - Nicotine
Sonny - Glow worm
Crystal Castles - Crimewave
Placebo - Bubblegun

These sound track ideas are from the genres of industrial metal, dubstep, ambient, grunge, and electronic, these aren't really mainstream genres of music which is what i like about the songs as they fit with the genre and characters. The characters don't tend to be normal and fit in anywhere, much like these genres of music.

Organising actors and times

Using the idea of media convergence I thought it be best appropriate using facebook to contact my actors, it's a fast and easy way to get hold of people and allows me to printscreen the evidence.

Niamh Video Diary

This is the first in a series of video diary's I have decided to make, I have decided to make video diaries so it allows the audience to connect with the characters. Even in the video diaries, Niamh doesn't reveal much about herself, just about how she feels. She doesn't know where she is, or who's computer she is using, which leaves an element of mystery. I have filmed TV static and recorded white noise to make it seem more mysterious.
This is the script that Niamh decided to use, it's quite illegible and all over the place, which represesnts how she feels.

Photos I have taken so far

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

I do not own this song, it belongs to its rightful owners. No copyright infringement intended

First Image

Full length photo of model walking up a hill. I have decided to use this image because it represents isolation and has a enigmatic feel to it. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I have increased the contrast to make it seem like she is walking into the light which relates to my theme of imagination and reality.

Second Image

Landscape image of model sitting down. I have used I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter. I decided to use this image because it doesn't show the model's face which creates a mysterious feel. I have deliberately placed objects with a lot of colour in the photo to make it relate to my theme of depersonalization. A common symptom of depersonalization is viewing the world in high contrast.

Third Image

Portrait image of model standing on a log. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I have placed her on a log because it shows the importance of the character, and that she is the main focus of the image. Like the previous image you can't see the model's face which creates a mysterious tone.

Fourth image

Landscape image of model sitting on the grass. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. In this photo I have allowed the audience to see her face. I asked her to make a confused face, which represents depersonalization.

Fifth image

Landscape image of model standing with an empty background. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I have made the model appear less focused in this image, as I wanted the background in the shot. I asked her to stand in an insecure position, to relate to depersonalization. The empty background also represents depersonalization.

Sixth image

Landscape image of model against a white background. Although this model isn't in my trailer, I like the way I have edited the image. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I have also added a layer, where i then used soft light and decreased the opacity, to then allow me to paint her hair a darker red.

Seventh image

Landscape image of model sitting on bed (photo taken through mirror). Again this model isn't in my trailer, but I like the way the photo is positioned and edited. It appears the model is having a really good time, or is feeling detached. I like the way I've taken the photo through a mirror, which makes it appear that it isn't real.

Eighth image

Portrait image of model against white background.

Ninth image

Portrait black and white image of model. Although this model isn't in my trailer, I like how i have taken the photo. I thought this photo was relevant to my trailer because it's a close up shot which reveals a lot of emotion. I have also given her strong eye makeup which again relates to my film.

Tenth image

Landscape image of model against a wall. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I like this image because it has the potential to be a candiate for one of my film posters.

Eleventh image

Landscape image of girl sitting on a bed with a blue wig.  I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. The use of the blue wig makes the image appear like it's not real, it feels almost like a dream state, which again relates to depersonalization.

Twelfth image

Landscape image of model in a park. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I like this image because it's quite detached from the focus of the character. It mainly focuses on the background rather than the character

Thirteenth image

Portrait image of model walking away from camera in park. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. Again this image feels quite detached so it represents depersonalization quite well. The fashion also fits with the style of my film.

Fourteenth image

Similar to thirteenth image

Fifteenth image

Landscape image of model near a tree.  I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. Again I haven't showed the model's face in the image to create a sense of mystery. The photo represents detachment which is an aspect of depersonalization.

Sixteenth image

(third image)

Seventeenth image

Landscape image of model sitting by the Thames.  I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. Model appears slightly detached and confused.

Eighteenth image

Landscape image of model lying in a bath. Although this model isn't appearing in my trailer, i like the use of background and editing. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. I have emphasizes the use of the black filter to drain the colour from the image.

nineteenth image

(see poster analysis)

Twentieth image

Portrait image of model sitting on a wall. Although this model isn't appearing in the trailer, I like the use of background and editing, and emotion in the model's face. The model appears quite detached, in a dream like state, which relates to depersonalization. The background is red bricks, which is quite complex which is the sort of background I would like to have in some of my shots.

Twenty First image

Portrait image of model sitting on a wall. Although this model isn't appearing in the trailer, I like the use of background and editing, and emotion in the model's face. The model appears quite detached, in a dream like state, which relates to depersonalization. The background is red bricks, which is quite complex which is the sort of background I would like to have in some of my shots. I also like the fashion of the model, this is the type of fashion I will be using in my trailer.

Twenty Second image

Portrait image of model sitting on a bus. I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. The model appears very detached form the world around her, as she sits at the back of a bus on her own.

Twenty third image

(similar to twentieth image)

Twenty fourth image

(similar to twenty second image)

Twenty fifth image

Portrait image of girl standing looking up at camera.  I have used auto levels, auto contrast, reduced the shadows, increased the midtone contrast and added a black, greeny yellow, and orange photo filter to give the photo a natural and enigmatic feel. The model appears confused and angry, which are common feelings of depersonalization. The background is basically of nothing which represents emptiness again another symptom of depersonalization.

Ideas for film poster

I had already looked into some film poster's of the same genre, and looking at the film poster for the signal, I realised that high levels of editing had been used to get across that it was a psychological thriller. I felt that the signal poster was extremely aesthetic which is what I wanted my poster to be like.

Once I had decided the name of my film, I began to research what exactly depersonalization is.

"Individuals who experience depersonalization feel divorced from their own personal physicality by sensing their body sensations, feelings, emotions and behaviors as not belonging to the same person or identity"

"Diagnostic criteria include persistent or recurrent experiences of feeling detached from one's mental processes or body."

"Common descriptions are: watching oneself from a distance; out-of-body experiences; a sense of just going through the motions; feeling as though one is in a dream or movie; not feeling in control of one's speech or physical movements; and feeling detached from one's own thoughts or emotions"

I thought these bits of information would work well as a brief, that I could stick to when designing my poster.

I  then went out and took some photos of my main character Melissa. We went to a range of different locations around London on different days, in order to capture different weather patterns, different locations and it would give me more of a selection when choosing which photo to use for the poster.
One of my favourite locations was Pepper Street in East London. I especially like this area because it's near the River Thames, but in a quiet place, so taking photos didn't prove difficult. The area also has a beautiful backdrop of the high rise buildings and the London Docklands.

I have positioned Melissa so that she is standing on a bench facing out towards the river and buildings, with her arms raised in the air. I have placed her on a bench so that she seems taller, and is the main focus of the poster, I tried taking a picture of her standing in front of the bench, but she was too short, and didn't appear to be the main focus of the image. Melissa is wearing a leopard print vest, with white shorts, and suspender tights. I feel this meets my style of fashion for the film (grunge)

I have edited this image in a way that relates to depersonalization. People who suffer from Depersonalization, feel detached or feel like they're in a dream world. I have designed the poster to make it appear that this is a world that Melissa is in, her dream world a world she has designed her self. I have done this by using the paint brush tool and going over the outlines in the background of the image, I then moved on the painting the railings near her and the bench she is standing on.
I then decided to go over the outline of her body. I then thought, 'If this is her own world, her dream world, things aren't going to appear as normal. So then I used the clone stamp on the river, and went over where her skin was. This effect looks like she has drawn the image herself, but hasn't given herself skin, making it appear like she is detached from body.
After that, the image still appeared too normal, so I clicked the filter button in photoshop to see if I could make the image appear like a dream like state. I found the coloured pencil filter, which I felt worked really well.
I then did my usual routine of auto levels, auto contrast, decreasing the light shadows, increasing the midtone contrast, adding an orange, yellowy green, and black photo filter. I then played around with the levels and brightness to create the final image.

I feel that this location has worked perfectly as it appears that she has drawn the landscape herself.

Depersonalization Synopsis

To be left alone with one's mind. Is hardly thought as dangerous. Is it? What if you could see yourself perform everyday tasks as if you were behind a pane of glass? What if you began to doubt your existance, and thought nothing could hurt you because you didn't feel real?

What if there was someone out there just like you? Someone who could fit the pieces together?

Melissa has forgotten who she is.  She's lost the ability to tell whats real and what's not. Everyday she asks herself whether any of this is real, or whether she's trapped in her own imagination.

She meets a girl, Niamh. Who appears to be just like her, if not completely the same. Can Niamh help Melissa to find herself, and escape from her own imagination?

I have also made a spider diagram to help me with ideas for the teaser

My choice of genre

Wikipedia describes a Psychological thriller as a:

"Specific sub-genre of the wide-ranging thriller genre. However, this genre often incorporates elements from the mystery and drama genre in addition to the typical traits of the thriller genre. Also, occasionally this genre will border into the also wide-ranging horror genre."

Other definitions include:

Psychological
"Elements that are related to the mind or processes of the mind; they are mental rather than physical in nature. Sometimes the suspense comes from within one solitary character where characters must resolve conflicts with their own minds. Usually, this conflict is an effort to understand something that has happened to them. These conflicts are made more vivid with physical expressions of the conflict in the means of either physical manifestations, or physical torsions of the characters at play."

Thriller
"Generally, thrillers focus on plot over character, and thus emphasize intense, physical action over the character's psyche. Psychological thrillers tend to reverse this formula to a certain degree, emphasizing the characters just as much, if not more so, than the plot."

Psychological Thriller
Characters are no longer reliant on physical strength to overcome their brutish enemies (which is often the case in typical action-thrillers), but rather are reliant on their mental resources, whether it be by battling wits with a formidable opponent or by battling for equilibrium in the character's own mind. The suspense created by psychological thrillers often comes from two or more characters preying upon one another's minds, either by playing deceptive games with the other or by merely trying to demolish the other's mental state.

Literary devices and techniques
Stream of consciousness
"A literary technique which seeks to describe an individual's point of view by giving the written equivalent of the character's thought processes. In psychological thrillers, the narrative tries to manifest the character's psyche through word usage, descriptions, or visuals."
First-person narrative
"a literary technique in which the story is narrated by one or more of the characters, who explicitly refers to him or herself in the first person, that is, "I". This direct involvement that the characters have with the story in turn makes the reader more involved with the characters themselves, and thus able to understand the mechanics of the characters' minds. This technique is often paired with the concept of the unreliable narrator. "
Back-story
"the history behind the situation extant at the start of the main story. This deepens the psychological aspect of the story since the reader is able to more fully understand the character; more specifically, what the character's motivations are and how his past has shaped his current cognitive perceptions."

Themes
Reality
"The quality of being real. Characters often try to determine what is true and what is not within the narrative."
Perception
"A person's own interpretation of the world around him through his senses. Often characters misperceive the world around them, or their perceptions are altered by outside factors within the narrative (see Unreliable narrator). "
Mind
"The human consciousness; the location for personality, thought, reason, memory, intelligence and emotion. The mind is often used as a location for narrative conflict, where characters battle their own minds to reach a new level of understanding or perception. "
Existence/Purpose
"The object for which something exists; an aim or a goal humans strive towards to understand their reason for existence. Characters often try to discover what their purpose is in their lives and the narrative's conflict often is a way for the characters to discover this purpose. "
Identity
"The definition of one's self. Characters often are confused about or doubt who they are and try to discover their true identity. "
Death
"The cessation of life. Characters either fear or have a fascination with death."

Image 1

This picture is of Effy from Skins. I decided to use this image because I feel it represents depersonalization, with its use of levels, colour, makeup and it's element of loneliness. I also like the fact that the image has been taken at night with an interesting lighting backdrop.

Image 2

This picture is of a girl laying on the grass. I like the high levels of contrast in this image. I also like the angle in which the picture has been shot.

Image 3

See Inspiring images slide show

Image 4

I like this image because the caption reads "And suddenly I felt nothing" Which is a common symptom of depersonalization. The woman is also wearing sunglasses which hide her emotions, which i feel is quite a strong element of the image.

Image 5

This image is of a girl sitting on steps. I decided to use this image because of the unique fashion sense. I like her grungy style, and i plan for my characters to wear similar things.

Image 6

This image is a of a boy in the rain. I like this image because it's in black and white and it holds a lot of emotion. I hope to achieve a shot like this by creating a hoswer scene rather than a rain scene.

Image 7

This image is of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain. I like this image because of the background. I hope to achieve a shot with a strong background.

Image 8

I like this image because it shows a lot of emotion. I also like the fashion sense the girl has. I like the way the girl is sitting, as it represents isolation which i feel relates to depersonalization.

Image 9

I like this image because of the girl's fashion sense and makeup. I also like how the photo has been edited.

Image 10

I like this image because of the setting and fashion. I love the leopard print, denim, and brand "wild fox" as they're quite grungy. The setting appears to be a train station "subway" which is also quite a grungy setting.

Image 11

I like this image because, I hope to shoot something similar to this in my film. It relates to depersonalization as it's like an outer body experience. I can achieve this in my film by using "Luma key" I also like the photo filter used as it creates an eerie feel to the image.

Image 12

I like this image because, although it is a sketch of a rabbit with the caption of "Just because you're paranoid" it depicts a lot of emotion. This image tells me exactly what a paranoid person would look like.

"i hate this feeling" this could be a symptom of depression. And the majority of individuals with depersonalization suffer from depression. I plan to make the main character quite depressed. But more detached than depressed. I chose this picture because the individual is a female, like my main character and she's writing using lipstick which is a stereotypical female item.

Second image

This image is of a girl hiding behind a tree. She appears to be quite scared. I have chose this picture mainly because she has pink hair. This makes the picture different and unique, much like people with depersonalization disorder. It also appears that the quality of the photo is either an SLR, or polaroid, or a disposable camera, as the quality is so grainy. This is how i plan to edit my film, using grainy or chroma key effects.

Third image

This image is of a girl in a black t-shirt,  over the knee socks, and a leather jacket. I chose this image because this kind of fashion I plan to use on my character.

Fourth image

This image is of a girl sitting down getting dressed. I chose this image because of the quality of photo. I like the use of grainy effects, this is how i plan to edit my film.

This image is of a girl in a bath, looking like she has drowned. She is wearing heavy makeup to create a stronger artistic effect. I plan to use a similar shot in my film, as it's very artistic and can be seen as quite psychotic.

Sixth image

This image is of a girl wielding a knife. This fits with the genre i plan to base my film around. She has a malicious smile, which fits again with the genre. This image has made me realize how important emotion is and how close up shots can depict this.

Seventh image

This image is of a girl lying on her bed. The girl isn't the main focus in the image, it's of the colourful background. I plan to shoot in a bedroom similar to this bedroom with colourful images in the background.

Eight image

This image is of a girl standing on a windowsill. I chose this image because of the girl's fashion. I plan to use a similar style for my characters.

Ninth image

This image is of a girl, again I chose this image because of the fashion sense. But the girl's face depicts an emotion similar to how i would portray someone with depersonalization.

Tenth image

This image is of a girl on the floor. I chose this image because it represents depersonalization. I feel this is a really strong image to depict this, and i plan to shoot using the same angle and position of the character.

Eleventh image

This image is of Courtney Love sitting on a bed with a guitar. I chose this image because she represents the "grunge" style. I plan to use a grungy style for my character's fashion sense. I also like how there is writing on the walls and how the room is really messy. This is how i want the room I film in to look like as individuals that suffer from depersonalization are highly unorganized.

twelfth image

This image is of two girls. I decided to use this picture because of the levels of editing used, there are high levels of contrast and levels used, which is what I intend on using in my trailer. The girls are also wearing heavy amounts of makeup. I also quite like their fashion sense, so i may take ideas from this photo to use on my characters.

thirteenth image

This image is of a girl leaning against a window. This is quite a depressing image and the girl looks quite scared. This is the level of emotion I want to use in my trailer. As people with depersonalization are quite scared. I also like the editing in this image.

fourteenth image

This image is of a boy laying on his bed smoking. I like the camera angle in this photo, and i also like the drawing on the walls. I plan to film in a location where there are a number of posters/photos on the wall as that gives the location an interesting backdrop.

fifteenth image

This image is of Effy from skins saying "Hit me just once, I want to feel something" I like this image because of the use of dark colours, which give the image a lot of emotion. It also sounds like a symptom of depersonalization. A lack of emotions or feeling in touch with reality.

sixteenth image

This image is from the film control. I like this image because it's a wide/long shot, which is a different shot to all the other images I have found so far. It also shows a lot of emotion, and is in black and white. I represents loneliness, which is a characteristic of depersonalization.

seventeenth image

This image is of the film poster Schizo. I like this image because it's a poster related to mental health. I like the limited use of colours, and grungy font. I also like the tagline "when the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" this tagline relates to schizophrenia, and I plan to come up with something as equally witty for depersonalization.

eighteenth image

This image is of a girl posing. I like this image because of the background colour of the wallpaper. As i plan to have an interesting background where I shoot, as this could relate to depersonalization and could represent "their world" as if they've designed it themselves. I also like the top she is wearing, and I plan to make sure my characters are wearing suitable fashion which can relate to my target audience. It appears she is wearing heavy eye makeup which represents a lot of emotion, so I plan to use this in my film.

nineteenth image

This image is from the film thirteen. I like this image because of the use of photofilters and fashion. I plan to manipulate the levels in my film to portray what the main character actually sees. People with depersonalization see the world differently to others.

Twentieth image

This image is of a girl lying on the floor. I like this image because there is a caption over the image saying "it's not real, it's not real" the use of repetition shows the importance of this. It's also a symptom of depersonalization, feeling that things aren't real. This image is also in black and white which i feel is the best colour setting for expressing emotion.

Twenty First image

This image is of two factsheets about mental health disorders. The first factsheet is about schizophrenia and the second one is about paranoid schizophrenia. I chose these factfiles because, schizophrenia is more recognized than depersonalization. Depersonalization is a characteristic of schizophrenia so I thought it would be relevant.

Twenty second image

This image is of a girl laying on a bed. I chose this image again because of the interesting background.

Twenty third image

This image of a girl. I chose this image because of her fashion sense. I plan to have my characters dress quite grungy. I also like the fact the image is in black and white.

Twenty fourth image

This image is of a silhouette of a girl sitting on a windowsill. I like this image because you can't see her face, only her shadow. This relates to depersonalization, is she real or is she just a shadow? I plan to create a shot like this in my film, as it sums up depersonalization.

Twenty fifth image

This image is of courtney love. I like this image because it's a close up shot of the character's face which clearly portrays how she is feeling. It also shows her messy hair and makeup, which is also a symptom of depersonalization "poor dress"

Twemty Sixth image

This image is another image from the film control. I like this image because it's cut into two sections which i find portrays emotion really well. I plan to use this in my film.

My second attempt at making a teaser

My first attempt at making a teaser

I have attempted to make this trailer similar to the Skins Clutch trailer, using fast cuts and manipulation of levels.

Inspiration for my teaser

I have decided to focus on skins, thirteen and the tracey fragments because they are all films/tv shows that focus on teenage problems.

I have been browsing youtube to find "psychological thriller" teasers to find inspiration for my teaser. I have also been looking at fan made videos of skins and the film thirteen. The way this has been edited almost creates a schizophrenic feel to it, with the use of fast cuts and high contrast editing. This is what I hope to achieve with my teaser. Because I've decided to base my film around depersonalization disorder, i feel that the use of high contrast and auto levels appeals to me when I make my teaser trailer.

I like this trailer because the use of music (alice practice - crystal castles) could be an example of what I could use for my trailer. The use of upbeat synths and strong emphasis on percussion is how I plan my music to sound. I like the use of contrast, overlapping images and fast cuts.

I like how this video starts out, with Effy's therapist saying "What are you thinking about" Reverb has been used on the voices to make then echo more than usual which fits really well with the eerie music. I am inspired by Effy's fashion sense and may use it in my trailer. I like how at the end of the trailer, fast cuts have been used to build up tension and drama.

I like this trailer because of its use of music, (Where is my mind - the pixies) which is quite relevant to my topic of choice. The opening shot is of an empty top deck of a bus which I plan to maybe recreate in my own trailer, as it could represent the feelings of the character. The title of the film alone creates an eerie vibe with the use of the words fragments. Although I plan to use fast cuts throughout my teaser, the tracey fragments trailer uses long cuts which get the point across, which i admire. The trailer also uses weird colour efects almost like 3D effects, which i quite like. Either the camera was a budget handheld camera, or they've used a number of photo filters to drain the colour out of the footage. This is what I plan to do as it creates an eerie feel. The main character has her hood up quite a bit in the footage, this creates an element of mystery to her personality which is what I plan to do for my main character. Towards the end of the trailer, the cuts become a lot faster to build up the suspense and drama.

I like the way this trailer opens with its use of static sound effects rather than actual music. The images are in black and white which create an eerie feel. The cuts are quite rapid as well cutting to someone screaming which i feel illustrates the genre of psychological thriller. I like the use of the blur effect of Effy's face. I could use this in my trailer as people who suffer from depersonalization experience visions of high contrast and blurred vision. The use of the words "Sometimes I think I was born backwards, come out my mum the wrong way" Would be an excellent quote for a psychological thriller. I like the typewriter text saying "delusional" and I might use something similar for my film.

In this trailer the use of soothing piano music indicates it could be quite a depressing film, and the use of reverb on the voice creates an eerie feel. The use of high contrast relates to the genre of my choice.

The opening to this trailer is more verbal than visual with its use of text. I like the music (Running up that hill - placebo) It appears that the editor of the trailer has beat matched the song, which is what I plan to do for my trailer. An effect has been used at about 0.16 seconds which looks like the iamges are overlapping each other. I like the use of fast cuts. In this teaser, it is clear that fashion is important as the majority of characetrs are standing up so you are able to see what they are wearing. I hope to base my characters around the fashion of Effy. Again, I like the idea of the characters speaking over the music and video clips, with a touch of reverb.

I like the idea of the characters speaking over the music and video clips, with a touch of reverb. The spoken words do not match the clips, creating a sense of detachment, which again relates to depersonalization. The use of colour effects in the clip, really relate to depersonzliation, with its use of black and white, sepia, high contrast and auto levels. The use of overlapping images and slowed down images again too relate. The use of soothing piano music creates a depressing tone for the video. I like the use of fast cuts towards the end of the clip, which indicate a build up of drama.

I like the use of spoken voice over a black background as it creates an element of mystery. I especially like the choice of song (Nobody's home - avril lavigne) The use of black and white represents the emotion in this clip, the editor has also beat matched which is what I intend to do with my clip. The clip also shows writing and newspaper clippings about depression, which I feel relates to my trailer.

This trailer is a typical trailer to illustrate teenage rebellion, with its use of fast past guitars, fashion, amateur filming and use of drugs. I like the choice of music and the fast cuts. The change in colour throughout the trailer indicates the change of feel and emotion which is what I plan to do with my trailer.
